Three UCF Tech Writing Students Win STC ScholarshipsBonnie Spivey received an undergraduate scholarship award and Cindy Hauptner and Bob Stultz both received graduate scholarship awards from the Orlando Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) for excellence in technical communication. The scholarships, from the Melissa Pellegrin Memorial Scholarship Fund, were presented to the UCF students at a meeting of the sponsoring STC Orlando Chapter at the Winter Park Civic Center on April 22. The scholarship fund honors the memory of a 1994 UCF graduate and Orlando STC chapter member. A plaque bearing the scholarship recipients' names is on permanent display in the UCF English Department. The undergraduate award was $500; the graduate awards were each $350. In addition to the scholarship presentations, the meeting contained seven round-table discussions focusing on job search and placement in technical communication. A sizable contingent of UCF student chapter members was on hand for the event. A complete listing of all previous scholarship recipients is available at http://www.stc-orlando.org/education/college/allcollawards.asp. The Society for Technical Communication is the world's largest professional organization in its field with over 20,000 members in 152 chapters worldwide. STC members work as technical writers, editors, illustrators, managers, educators, translators, and other communicators who make technical information understandable and available to those who need it. Information about STC can be found at its website at www.stc.org. |
